Remove Fake Windows Defender Pop-up Alert - Get Rid of "Windows Defender Detected malware/spyware" Pop-up

Was online today, and went to open a link from FB & the page locked up with a screen that said Windows Defender had locked my browser because it detected malware/spyware, and that I needed to call the toll free tech support service to help get my computer fixed.  Could not get the browser window to close or access any other applications.  Did not know what to do so called the number.  Long story short, the guy convinced me he was legit & I let his company have remote access to fix my computer.  I could see everything they did on my screen, and it seemed legit, but fast forward several hours and my computer is not fixed, and when I mention my problem to friends on FB, they all say I got scammed.  I just finished doing my taxes & had all the files saved on this computer!  HELP!!!
